Margaret J.A. James
Career Highlights
Maggie started her journalism career in private radio, working as a reporter and newscaster for stations of all
sizes in a variety of Central Canada markets. She worked all the beats and all the air shifts at one time or another
over a period of twelve years. And her radio experience proved valuable preparation for many future media appearances
as a representative of various publications.
In the mid 1980s, Maggie moved over to print as Managing Editor of Ottawa Business News
(now Ottawa Business Journal).
From the late 1980s to the mid 2000s, she co-owned and managed the content side of GRL Communications Inc., a
corporate communications service bureau catering to high-end government, technology sector and institutional clients.
In the early 1990s, Maggie co-founded MONiTOR magazine, a feisty little consumer technology monthly that
grew, over the next fifteen years, to dominate Canada's Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec markets. As Editor of
a regional consumer tech monthly, she got a firm grip on 'the big picture' and on a tight editorial budget. She
also became an expert 'juggler'.
In 2008, Maggie co-founded TECHLifePost.com, a daily consumer-oriented webzine focusing on consumer
technology and 'digital living'. As Managing Editor of a daily online digital lifestyle magazine, she broadened her
horizons and raised her skills to a whole new level.
In May, 2009, Maggie founded MJWordsmith Communications, an agile, deadline-driven communications service bureau, designed to help organizations of all sizes meet their most pressing communications challenges.
